Winery rooms, village guesthouses, cottages and campsites in Slovak Tokaj, or Košice as a base: which village suits whom, prices and when to book ahead.
Updated:
There are no large hotels in the seven Tokaj villages. You sleep in family guesthouses, rooms at wineries, apartments and whole cottages, plus a few campsites and glamping cabins. Just outside the wine region, Hotel Brigadír occupies part of the Rákóczi manor in Borša. All the places we know of are listed below this introduction.
This is the most relaxed option: you taste in the evening, walk a few steps to bed, and nobody has to drive. Several estates and family producers have rooms, for example J & J Ostrožovič and Víno Vdovjak in Veľká Tŕňa, Tokaj Macik Winery in Malá Tŕňa, and Chateau Grand Bari and Majer Bara of Tokaj Gold in Bara. Some smaller family cellars rent out a cottage or apartment and taste with guests on request.
Apartments and whole houses in Malá Tŕňa and Veľká Tŕňa suit families and groups, and several come with a kitchen. Self-catering helps, because village restaurants keep short hours. For something different, there are glamping cabins in the vineyards near the lookout tower and a campsite with tree-top cabins in Malá Bara. In Borša, Hotel Brigadír has rooms in the restored Rákóczi manor, breakfast included, and a campsite next door opens in July and August.
Košice has the widest choice of hotels, and Čerhov is an hour away by train. This works well for a day trip or if you would rather not drive at all. The catch is the evening: you can't linger over a late tasting if the last convenient train is waiting. We do not list Košice hotels.
Prices published in autumn 2026 ranged from 35 € per night for a whole apartment at JM apartmány in Veľká Tŕňa to 88–108 € per night for two at Hotel Brigadír, breakfast included. At Penzión Tokaj on the Ostrožovič estate a double room cost 59–62 € per person, with breakfast and a bottle of wine included. Some places add a local tax per person per night (1.50 € at Hotel Brigadír), and check the payment terms: one holiday house takes cash on arrival and has a five-night minimum stay.
Tip: For the festival weekends in May, late June, late August and September, book as soon as the dates are announced. With so few rooms, the villages fill up quickly. See the events calendar.
